OPENING RECEPTION:
FRIDAY, JANUARY 26, 2018 7-11PM
ON VIEW:
JANUARY 26 - MARCH 4, 2018
Club Pro Los Angeles is pleased to present Canary for the Family, an exhibition of new works by Hayden Dunham featuring a video by Austin-based artist, Elizabeth McClellan.
- A central plot was constructed to camouflage other plots (which register themselves as plot holes) by overlapping them with the surface (a surfacing dynamic plot) or a grounded theme. In terms of this exhibition, the central plot is the map or the concentration blueprint of plot holes (into other plots)
- It’s like a container with a top on it, but it is also kind of leaking and is actually really messy. I think it is seeping through the floorboards above the office, and it now lives in the walls. I saw some in the bathroom yesterday, as well as in the street
- Your body is a leaking container
- Your body is leaking, container
- Then there is the bright guiding light, or at least there was one, now there might be multiple
0: I want to be your light
1: No
0: Let me
1: No
0: I'm with you even if you don’t want me to be
1: I don't care
- There is also water dissolving and water removing, water as steam steaming at the bottom of the ocean, under water, carrying a water
- Wholes are less than the sum of their parts
- It’s how water drops give raindrop data, not gumdrop data (what a shame) but, raindrop data is just data, not actual water drops dropping. Trying to write about water is like dancing about architecture and everything else is actually like that
- breathing, receiving, lower den, rubber tightening, ground level, high frequency, growing, sucking, blowing, shattered whole, hole, multiples of whole and holes, broken-in, broke-apart, fixed, staged, simulated emotional responses and data, lubricant, contact mechanisms, filtration, systems, automatic contact mechanisms, shape dislocated traveling, attitude problems, worm-hole, glory hole, worm-like, sub mirror, minoring, magnetized, attention span surfacing, sensitive, seduction, activated space, activate place-in, placed-out, place-holding, being held, on hugging, quiet controlled variables and a natural state of decomposition, melting, disintegrating, splashing mists, folding-over, resting, sensitive exchanges, pairing and placement, charged, invert, inverting, inside outside, purposefully put back together, protection in pattern, soft warnings, safety, radiating, unknowing, undoing, softness in darkness, opening in the bottom, structural but not limited, recirculated, receptacle, illuminating and pulsing, tingling, sensory vibrations, humming of the skin, steaming wet, singing of the water, every body, every non-body, strangeness in play
- She spilled it all over everything, the top was on it, but it was still spilling everywhere and she was like it's all over me get it off. We think she didn't screw it on perfectly evenly
Hayden Dunham (b. 1988, Austin) currently lives and works in Los Angeles. She has participated in exhibitions and performances at Andrea Rosen Gallery, New York; MoMA PS1, New York; LTD Gallery, Los Angeles; Artist Curated Project, Los Angeles; SIGNAL Gallery, Brooklyn; New Museum, New York; Colette, Paris and the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin.
